The Department of Pharmacognosy bridges the gap between traditional medicine systems and modern science. It deals with the study of medicines or crude drugs produced from natural sources such as plants, microbes, and animals.
Our department is dedicated to the exploration of the vast medicinal flora of India, aiming to isolate, identify, and standardize active constituents for therapeutic use. We emphasize the integration of Ayurvedic principles with contemporary allopathic research.
Cultivation, collection, macroscopic and microscopic evaluation of indigenous medicinal plants.
Formulation and standardization of herbal cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and Ayurvedic dosage forms.
Faculty and students regularly publish findings on hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic, and antimicrobial properties of local herbs.
Annual botanical tours to diverse ecological zones for hands-on plant collection and identification.
